Setting up a Wireless Connection for the First Time

  • Open your internet browser and attempt to find a webpage.
  • Your browser will be redirected to a page that looks like this...

Services available without the Cisco VPN:
Viewing the Web
Checking your AU E-mail account
Wireless handheld devices
Use of SecureCRT, WinSCP, and Secure FTP
Services requiring the Cisco VPN:
WS-FTP
Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, etc.
Accessing shared AU networks
Student H: drives
Checking non-AU e-mail accounts via POP/IMAP
  • To connect with limited services enter your AU User Name and Password into the specified boxes.
  • Alternatively, To use the VPN Client continue reading below.
  • To connect via the VPN Client with more services, first click the Download Cisco VPN Client link.

VPN Client

  • Click the link, which corresponds to your Operating System to download the VPN Client.
  • Once the client is finished downloading, install the VPN client.
  • When the installer is done, you must restart your computer. Be sure to save any open work.
  • Upon rebooting, run the VPN client.
    • Windows: The VPN client can be found in the Start menu in the Programs folder "Cisco Systems VPN Client"

  • Open the VPN Client and make sure the AU Wireless connection entry is highlighted.
  • Press the Connect button and wait.
  • The VPN Client will prompt you for your AU User Name and Password; enter them into the specified fields to login.

  • Once the service has validated you as an AU User then you will be connected to the AU Wireless Network.
